(More customer reviews)I have a dog who sheds (a lot) and my children and I have allergies and asthma. My allergist recommended that I vacuum every day. But the problem was that I *hated* vacuuming - my old vacuum got stuck under my kichen cabinets, had a short hose that couldn't reach high enough to do any dusting, and (although it was a 'hepa' model) it was dirty and dusty. Vacuuming was frustrating and irritating.
It was time for a new vacuum cleaner and so I went to an actual vacuum cleaner store to try out different models. Prior to that visit, I had never even heard of the Miele. After trying out several Dyson models, it was love at first sight with the Miele Callisto! I came home and vacuumed with my old Hoover wind tunnel, then immediately vacuumed with the Miele and couldn't believe how much it picked up! I'm not the type of person who could have ever imagined myself paying this much for a vacuum cleaner, but I'm so glad I did!! It was worth it!!
Here's my summary:
What I like:
* It's so easy to use that I don't mind vacuuming and dusting (as much!).
* The Miele picks up dog hair from all floor types - carpet, linoleum, tile, and hardwood. Yeah!
* I don't sneeze while I'm vacuuming because it's not spitting out any dusty exhaust.
* There's a special setting to use (with lower suction) for cleaning curtains.
* The hose is powered, so the beater brush is powered (I didn't care for the Miele models with air-powered brushes).
* The attachments (except for the hardwood floor attachment) fit on the unit so they won't get lost.
* The turbobrush head swivels, which makes it very easy to vacuum around tables, couches, whatever.
* The Miele has really good suction right up until it's time to change the bag. My Hoover would have great suction for a few times, and then went downhill fast!
* This Miele has a telescoping wand which makes it super easy to clean the tops of paintings, ceiling fans, and chandeliers.
* It's small, and light, and doesn't take up much space in my closet. My old Hoover was a tank... big, awkward, and heavy!
What I didn't like:
* The power cord is too short. If it was about 5' longer, it would be perfect.
* The consumables (bags, HEPA filter) are expensive.

Rainbow Vacuum E-2 Type 12 2-Speed Review

(More customer reviews)My main problem with the Rainbow is how it it sold. You have to let the salesperson into your home and they have that darn referral program. But with all that it can do, you really need a presentation. We bought our Rainbow on the spot and have never regretted that decision. We have 2 big, shedding dogs. I have bought the most privey Hoovers and Bissels but none would get rid of that dog smell or fur. The Rainbow purifies the air (also deodorises) as it vacuums. Powerful suction allows you to clean fans, blinds etc. effortlessly. We also have the carpet and floor cleaner. Although more cumbersome than an upright, it does a better job than others that I have tried - even the commercial Rug Doctors. This machine is not for people looking for ease of use. But if you want deep down cleaning, nothing else compares. Tip: when emptying out the canister, sift it so that only the dirty water goes into the toilet. Dump the rest of the clumped dirt and hair into a trash can. We bought our whole system for $1800 and it is still doing a wonderful job. You can also use the Rainbow to blow inflatable pools up and as a small wetvac.

Dyson DC17 Asthma & Allergy Upright Vacuum Cleaner Review

(More customer reviews)Just purchased the DC 17 allergy and asthma today. Have done a lot of research over the last week and read many reviews. I really wanted a good vacuum I can depend on; I have 6 kids and vacuum daily! Best I can tell each model has the same amount of suction, they just have different options in color, filter placement/type and attachments. I was set on the DC14 model but this was on sale for a great price and had a few more attachments I felt I would really use. So far I am pleased. It appears to pick up as expected, I'm pretty impressed with the amount of junk in the canister and my carpets feel cleaner. This is very easy to maneuver; I see no need for the more expensive ball model, unless you will use all the fancy attachments. All the full size Dyson's felt heavy to me in the store, so I was concerned with getting it up and down the stairs, but in comparison to Hoover etc. they all seem to be about the same weight and hey we could all use a good workout. I find no issues with pushing it around, it moves with great ease and transitions surfaces flawlessly. Turning the beater off to move from carpet to solid floors is a breeze and the feature works wonderfully, just a touch of an easy to reach button. The attachments fit on firmly and do not fall off. The wand will take some getting use to as it is solid for about 18+" and I am use to the hose being flexible at the base. I don't have to bend as much using it though so my back is happy! The hose is very easy to remove for use, just cannot use it for quick pick-ups until you unwind the entire plug, so one minor downfall. It states there is a 5 year warranty, I did not read what all that covers, I will just be relieved to have a vacuum last more than a year with the beating I give them. It is important as with ALL canister vacuums that you tap or wipe out the excess dust from the chamber weekly. I have had many canister vacuums and learned early on to do this often to keep the fine dust from building up or you will loose suction. The filter is easy to remove and clean by running under tap water, so will save on replacement filters in the future! Overall I am happy; we will see how I feel at the 6 mo. And 1 yr. mark. But no regrets today. The only negative I can agree with that I have seen over the last week is the not being able to remove the wand without unwinding the entire cord.

Eureka 6500A Airextreme 12-Amp Bagged Canister Vacuum Cleaner with Hepa Filtration Review

(More customer reviews)I bought the Eureka because I wanted an 'upstairs' vac. You know, the machine that we just keep for the bedrooms. Well, I now use this machine all over the house. Here's what I really like about this vacuum:
fairly quiet operation
variable speed motor
excellent filtration
power nozzle seems self propelled
very large bare floor brush attachment
Now, things I don't like about it:
small bag capacity
flimsy, tiny little dusting brush - worthless (and it keeps falling off the holder)
made in China
The bags, while very small, are easy to change. And they are fairly inexpensive, so I can't kick about that too much. The power nozzle goes under very low things (like beds and coffee tables) and cleans very well. The carpet almost looks new again. The suction is very good, not outstanding, but certainly enough to clean well.
I wish the speed control for the motor was in the hose handle, and not on the cleaner, as I don't remember to bend down to turn the knob when cleaning throw rugs (which is what a speed control is made for), and wind up dragging the throw rugs across the kitchen floor.
All in all, it's a decent cleaner at a decent price, and I feel it will do the job I require of it for many years. For the average person's needs, and in a home less than 2000 square feet, with wall to wall rugs and bare floor surfaces, it's a fine vacuum. I did go to a vacuum cleaner service shop and bought a REAL dusting brush (round, with horse hair bristles) that works like a dream compared to the one included. Cost: $4.

(More customer reviews)This is the machine to buy at a great price. Free shipping was the buying factor that pushed me to buy it. I hate getting into toilets and this made it easy for cleaning. Cleans up the floor around the toilet extra clean as well. I sprayed the toilet seat over and under and around and cleaned it better then new. The rim inside and outside is so easy with the spray nozzle and it does it so fast with hot steam that you can smell and see the clean after just a few seconds. I will never do without one of these again. This is my first and I was just being cheap by not buying one sooner. I don't know about the rest of the name brands but this one stands up very well so far. Hope this helps out cause I am now becoming a steam nut for cleaning. When you need something clean, steam is the only way to clean quickly and without chemicals.

Dyson DC25 Ball All-Floors Upright Vacuum Cleaner Review

I have wanted a Dyson ever since they first came out, but when I went to a store to look at them, it was so heavy I would need one for each level of my house and not enough closet space to store them.
This is under 12 pounds, fits easily in a closet, and is so light it's very easy to carry up stairs. I'll admit I'm not a fan of cleaning but being a female engineer I certainly appreciate well-designed products. This one has many clever features. The cleaning head is low-profile, so it easily hugs floor boards under kitchen cabinets (huge plus!). The ball design is incredibly inventive and so easy to use. It's like the difference hauling a suitcase around that has weels that go in only one direction vs. the new ones with pivot wheels - makes SO much sense and doesn't hurt my back to use it.
Cleaning power is great! It isn't especially labelled for pet hair cleanup, but does a great job. I cleaned once with my old vaccuum, then filled this Dyson up with a 2nd run through. I was amazed at how much my old one didn't pick up!
Assembly is easy - just 3 snap in place steps and no tools. If you get stuck on attaching the wand (which didn't seem to fit when you put it in according to the picture), turn it around to the other side and it snaps right in.
Most vacuums have hand tools that are awkward or just don't work. This is so easy to pull out (with a long handle to reach ceiling cobwebs) that I don't hesitate to use it many times in the midst of vacuuming a room. The attachments have very good suction power. The long handle makes everything, floor to ceiling to window sills, easy to reach without effort.
The only thing I'd improve upon is a better attachment for stair cleaning. The attachment isn't quite wide enough to make stair cleaning as fast as I'd like. I think there is an attachment sold separately that looks wider that might be better. And if you try to do stairs without the attachment (and carry the whole vacuum up each stair), it is difficult because the back set of balls move and disable the rotating brush and you can't manouver the whole thing across a stair. But no vacuum can do that properly, right?
All in all, I think it is a tad bit expensive, but I think I'll never buy another vacuum in my life. And how good for the environment, not needing to buy and throw away vacuum bags! If I divide the cost by the number of years I'll use it and the decreased allergens in my house, it is worth every penny!
I'm not the kind of person to get excited about a vacuum cleaner, so I hope you appreciate my review :) I really do like this machine!
