Bosch Formula Electro Duo Plus Hepa Canister Vacuum Cleaner Review

Bosch Formula Electro Duo Plus Hepa Canister Vacuum Cleaner
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I do heavy research on everything I buy. Here are my thoughts on buying this canister vacuum: Impressions
The Bosch Formula BSG71370UC is amazing: high performance, solid construction, convenient design. Small/light enough to be portable, but large enough to have built in attachment storage and a high capacity bag system. Suction power is adjustable, providing two things. First, full power is to powerful for some surfaces (there are warnings in the manual). Second, running at normal/low power, the unit is quieter than a microwave oven and you think its not pulling well until you put your hand over the hose - yeow! First impression of the first use on carpet that got regularly vacuumed: "wow, its looks like its been washed!" Attachments
This is the top of the formula line, including the turbo upholstery attachment. This draws energy from the airflow on the suction and transfers it to a scrubbing brush, with the sound of a turbo charger. This and all the attachments work like gang busters. The main carpet wand has a switch for turning the large scrubber's electric motor on/off (carpet/floors), and the suction with the crevice tool is so strong, nothing gets away. Even with the integrated motor, the head of this unit is low profile enough to fit in and around most furniture. The cord auto retracts, just give it a tug and let go. You can pull the canister itself behind you, the 3-360 wheels turn on a dime, but getting around objects still requires pull. With cleaning power combined with multiple filters, this is ideal for people with allergies. Floors
It handles bare floors mightily, just flip the handle located power switch to off to stop the spinning brush. For complete area cleaning, the small brush attachment hits the baseboards and low walls. The units wheels, of course, handle even better. Hair
My main use for this and the reason I bought this unit is cat hair, a job it handles well. With 2 sizes of scrubbing nozzles, no unattached hair can hide for long. Parts
In the configuration for full carpet/floors, it comes apart in 3 sections, hose, tube/handle, and powered nozzle. All 3 require both hands to disconnect, one to squeeze the release mechanism and the other to pull. One of the extra's on this unit is that the power wires for the motorized head are integrated into the tubes/hoses. This makes for quick dis/connects. Negatives
1) The hose is supposed to spin 360 degrees to avoid tangles but doesn't spin freely enough to work without thought. 2) I like responsive switches. The power switch has a lag time, designed to be used by feet so you have to hold a moment to turn it on and off. 3) Price is high, but abcvacuum.com cuts right through this. Surprise Use
Dust Buster replacement: Leaving it parked and plugged in, full time behind the sofa my cat frequents. Its so quiet on low, the bits moving down the pipe make more noise than the motor. Long Term Update
Having it for many months now, here's what else I've learned. The bag full gauge is tough to read, so the easiest way to tell the bag needs changing is that suction goes down - ie when you find yourself using full power. The turbo attachment isn't much more powerful than the standard small nozzle nor as powerful as the electric nozzle. So provided its clean, the floor/carpet electric nozzle cleans upholstery with gusto, leaving the turbo nozzle doing just the hard to reach places. And last but not least, a WONDERFUL way to clean stairs is by connecting the electric power floor/carpet nozzle directly to the wand, leaving the extension tube off. Alternatives
The rule with canister vacs is dexterity, the rule with uprights is mobility. This is my favorite canister, the Eureka Sanitaire SC6600 is my favorite upright:
http://www.epinions.com/pr-Eureka_Sanitaire_SC6600A_Upright_Vacuum
Both do carpets + floors + elevated/hose suction. Decide for yourself which is more important. Canister = superior clean, upright = superior speed. The Sanitaire SC6600 is better for on-the-go use, with a 3 stage power switch with off/suction/suction scrub. The second position is for floors and if you're in the third (doing carpets) and pull out the hose for spot cleaning, it automatically switches to the second and then back again when you reinsert.
Sanitaire (eureka) also makes a canister thats worth looking at but with which I have no personal experience. Oddly, its sold under their commercial brand so its hard to find:

Miele Aquarius Canister Vacuum Cleaner - Miele S5 Model S5580 Aquarius - Blue Review

Miele Aquarius Canister Vacuum Cleaner - Miele S5 Model S5580 Aquarius - Blue

I am thrilled with the Miele system. The bags caught most, if not all (hey I don't have a microscope) of my dust, dust mites and their and my blech. I live in Oregon, land of 24/7 365 moisture. So dust mites love it here. And I happen to live in a valley... grass grass pollen pollen. I also have a cat that loves to quite literally roll around in the dirt. After testing a Miele Aquarius on my entire carpeted apartment, it was a no brainer to get a Miele. The first night I had my loaner from a friend I thoroughly cleaned my bedroom and that night I slept better. In the morning instead of going through a dozen or more tissues I just needed one. I also did not have to blow my nose in the middle of the night. I already have an amazing non-toxic mattress that the mites can't live in so I knew the problem was carpet, dust and moisture related. I ended up with the Gemini Miele as I don't need the Automatic (extra function) of the Aquarius. I did want the backlit knob indicator which is why I went with the Gemini over the Callisto. I purchased through Witbecks and they have been amazing in service and I would definitely buy from them again. And if the price makes you balk... read The Miele company's environmental statement. They make some appliances too. Think about it, 15-20 years for a vacuum... how many pieces of junk vacuums can you go through in that time? I don't know of anyone yet that does not love their Miele!
ps People, if you have allergies... look at your laundry detergent too.... I am simply flabbergasted how many people say they have allergies and use scented detergent, fabric softener, and dryer sheets!!!!!! That synthetic fragrance is definitely exacerbating any allergies you may have. That includes any 'plug-ins' or the like. Those products are actually quite toxic over time, they damage your olfactory senses (nose) and pollute the air, not freshen it.

Deluxe Pet Tool Animal Mini Turbo Head tool for standard vacuum Review

Deluxe Pet Tool Animal Mini Turbo Head tool for standard vacuum

This attaches to the vacuum hose attachment just fine (i.e., no loss of suction), but there isn't enough power there to keep the roller going. I bought this to use with rugs and on the couch. For the couch it's OK, but on rugs the roller will just stop turning unless you keep it moving. I got a different kind of brush (one by Eureka) and I don't have this same problem. I suspect that the roller unit is just too big so it doesn't maintain good suction. What I really want/need is a tool like this that is driven by a separate motor. i thought this would work and i'd do it on the cheap, but I got what I paid for, which is to say I got poor results.

Miele S2120 Delphi Canister Vacuum - Lotus White Review

Miele S2120 Delphi Canister Vacuum - Lotus White
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I got this vacuum for Christmas (yes, I know. But in hubby's defense I actually asked for a new vacuum for Christmas). He did TONS of research to identify a canister vac that met my needs: had to use bags, had to be light and good with pet hair. By getting this as a gift cost wasn't as much of a concern as it was kind of a treat, and let me tell you--this is totally worth the cost. It's super light, super quiet, and super effective. I can vacuum while having a conversation, that's how quiet it is. And you can easily take it up and down the stairs. It has a handy little hook that allows you to connect the hose and bar to the canister so that you can carry it all with one hand.
It is so easy to take this vacuum out that I find myself cleaning more frequently than I did before. And its multi-level suction capability makes it perfect for everything from light cleaning of curtains to heavy-duty cleaning of high-traffic carpets. And the unexpected benefit that I love the most: you don't change the attachment when you switch from hard floors to carpet; the same head unit is used for both. I never thought about it, but just pushing a button when I switch rooms rather than having to disconnect and reconnect attachments is a HUGE timesaver. I love this vacuum!

SEBO Essential G1 9591AT Vacuum Cleaner 12" Cleaning Path Review

SEBO Essential G1 9591AT Vacuum Cleaner 12 Cleaning Path
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Okay, maybe I'm exaggerating. But this vacuum beats all the others hands down. I bought mine locally from a little place I've been going to for years: they carry (and repair) every kind of vacuum. I was all set to get the highly rated Hoover, but the guy showed me the SEBO Felix, and I decided to save my pennies until I could get it. And I was glad I did: this thing is awesome. Light and powerful. The brush bar has a clutch in it, so if you suck up a rag or something, the bar stops instead of burning up the belt. The belt has a LIFETIME WARRANTY. Attachments are simple and easy to swap. The suction level can be adjusted, for vacuuming curtains or other delicates. You can turn the beater bar on and off with a foot switch: hardly slow down when you hit bare floors. The parquet head makes a floor 'mop ready': it has a seal around it to prevent dirt from escaping.
Bags are expensive. But they have a built-in door to seal up the bag when it's full: no more carrying a dust-spewing bag out the door. Plus the Felix is designed to be used until the bag is FULL: there is a little window to indicate how full the bag is, and it lasts a lot longer than you'd think such a small bag would.
It's light enough to carry with one hand: the built-in handle(s) allow you to carry it like a canister for stairs and overhead work.
I know this is a gushing review, but this vacuum really is great. I took a couple of buddies to the local shop, and they were convinced too: we're all product engineers so we're picky about stuff. They walked out with new vacuums too!

Miele Delphi S2120 Canister Vacuum Cleaner Review

Miele Delphi S2120 Canister Vacuum Cleaner
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First of all let me state that this is my first Miele vacuum. I've not laid hands on a Sebo, Riccar, or Miele (except briefly in a store) before receiving the Miele Delphi. In the past I bought what was cheap and hoped for the best. Lately I've changed that philosophy and research everything diligently. Consider in my review that I don't have experience with premium vacuums prior to this one (and even though it's at the bottom end of the price range I think $500 is premium for a vacuum cleaner).
This vacuum replaces a Kenmore upright that lasted 10 years. We were never really satisfied with it though. It's performance was mediocre and it always had belt problems. The beater was driven from the main motor by means of a cheap idler pulley arrangement (so that it could be disengaged for bare floors) which was a weak point. Like many uprights it was heavy and fell over easily when using attachments. Our house is 50/50 bare floors and low carpets. It did poorly on bare floors, particularly the tile in our bathrooms.
We use a vacuum to clean all the floors, upholstery, for dusting, and cleaning out the cars.
After a lot of research I decided on these priorities:
* Sealed system. Why clean if the dust is shooting out all over everything as you go?
* True power brush. Even though we have low carpets it was pretty clear that the combo tool would not cut it. Nor was I impressed with the turbo brush at the store. It's very convenient to flip a switch and go from carpet to bare floors. I realize that there are specific brushes for bare floors, and we may get one eventually, but they seem very expensive for what you get.
* Quality construction. Means a lot for me and I'm willing to pay for it. I'm practically an expert appliance repairman from working on all the junk appliances we bought for our new house 10 years ago. First world construction AND assembly is not everything, but it goes a long ways.
* HEPA was not a necessity. We don't have dust allergies. The ability to upgrade is a nice plus, but for now I just don't think we need it.
So why did I choose the Delphi?
If you are confused about Miele's model selection join the club. To sum the it up (canisters only):
S2 series, larger bags, powered and non-powered hose models tools mount on base of hose.
S4 series, smaller bags, non-powered hose models only, tools mount of base of hose.
S5 series, larger bags (same as S2), premium line, powered and non-powered hose models, tools mount inside.
Differences within the lines largely involve attachment packages and the type of controls on the vacuum itself.
Models with a non-powered hose cannot use power accessories. You cannot add a powered hose later. There are no provisions to power it. You are stuck with the turbo (air powered) brush heads only. As I said earlier I was not satisfied with the performance of those. All the new models with powered hoses have direct connect. That means when you connect the attachment the power plug is attached as well. There are no extra wires to connect. Some older models required extra wires which I would find inconvenient if you just wanted to change over the dusting brush for a quick second.
So on to the Miele Delphi:
The item arrived well packaged with clear documentation and only reasonable assembly required (~3 minutes, no tools). There are separate manuals for the power head and vacuum.
The included power head is the SEB 217-3. It is about 10 1/2" wide with no light bar. It is a couple inches narrower than the power head on most vacuums. Miele has a larger one available that would work on this vacuum for around $250.00 (half the cost of the entire thing). Consider that the wider the power head the more your suction is dispersed. As the suction on the Miele is excellent I think it could certainly power a wider head just fine, but unless you have a very large home I think it would be unnecessary. Probably more important to that decision is the type of carpet. The 217-3 is designed for lower nap carpets. It has no height adjustment. I suspect it would be very hard to push on higher carpets. On high suction it can get tough to push on medium to low carpets, so consider that if you have deep carpeting. It does well on bare floors and I run it at the highest setting for this. You can actually see the dust being pulled under from a couple inches out front of the head.
The head has a swiveling attachment and as such it is very maneuverable. It also lays nearly flat, but not completely so, for getting under things. The head itself is very low profile so I can get under things I couldn't before. The wand appears of very high quality stainless and the plastic latches for extension and connection appear of similar high quality and function.
The so called "deluxe" handle has a single switch for the power head which is a necessary convenience. I would not consider one without this. A second switch to power the vacuum on and off would have been a nice addition, but it's not a necessity.
They claim the power hose is crush proof and strong enough to support the weight of the vacuum plus some but I have no reason to test it. The hose is free to swivel 360 degrees at the handle end but not at the vacuum end due to the connection for the power head. It doesn't swivel all that well and it may take me a little getting used to it, but like I said I've never used a canister. As I mentioned there is a separate plug on the base of the hose for the power head. The S5 models have a plug integral with the hose. You have to unplug it to open the bag chamber but that's not a big deal.
The vacuum itself has very strong suction. It's adjustable of course by means of a knob on the top of the body. I noticed some dust on the bottom of the vacuum so decided to vacuum it off and pulled the label right off the base as well! It is fairly quiet, but noticeably louder with the small attachments due to drawing the amount of air it is through such a small opening. The cord reel works well. It rides on 3 independent caster wheels and maneuvers very well. The small attachments mount to a bracket on the base of the hose. They stay there well enough but the bracket nor the attachments are awe inspiring. Then again, what do you expect.
The bag compartment door opens by a latch at the front of the vacuum body. The cover seems pretty flimsy when open so be careful with it in that position. It looks to be held in the open position only by plastic detents in the hinge. Plastic hinges are also used on the motor filter door, but considering that this only needs changing with every 4th or 5th bag shouldn't be subject to a lot of wear. The bag compartment holds a factory installed g/n bag with a hinged closure to prevent dust leakage. By the time you open the compartment it is already closed. Removal and replacement couldn't be easier. For all the talk of a sealed system this Miele relies on a tapered plastic to plastic joint to achieve it. I expected to see a rubber gasket of some type around the bag chamber but it's not to be found on the Delphi. I think the s5 models have one and this may be what is meant by their double seal. I don't have any way to test it, but it certainly seems air tight. I suppose the motor's suction makes it even tighter when it's running.
As I alluded to earlier, the Delphi comes with a thin, non HEPA, air filter. You can buy one any time you want to put in, but at $53.00 I wouldn't get it unless you really need it. The thin "super clean" air filters come included in each box of bags. I assume if you don't have a model that originally came with this thin filter you will need to locate a carrier to hold it as it is much thinner than the HEPA filter. Kudo's to Miele for making this an option. Ongoing operational costs are something to consider with any appliance.
In summary I'm pleased with the S2120 Delphi. It has exactly the features I was looking for and I was willing to pay the higher price over something like an Electrolux Oxygen 3 in consideration of Miele's excellent reputation. At it's heart you get the same motor and suction as the higher priced models. My main concern is the durability of the plastic door, in particular it's hinges. If they break your vacuum is useless. Perhaps my fear is unwarranted. My four star rating is what I consider excellent for a new product. For me five stars would need to include a consideration of reliability. It's always a gamble, but I think with a Miele a pretty safe bet.

Miele S5280 Pisces Canister Vacuum Cleaner w/205 Turbo-Brush Review

Miele S5280 Pisces Canister Vacuum Cleaner w/205 Turbo-Brush
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have a dog who sheds (a lot) and my children and I have allergies and asthma. My allergist recommended that I vacuum every day. But the problem was that I *hated* vacuuming - my old vacuum got stuck under my kichen cabinets, had a short hose that couldn't reach high enough to do any dusting, and (although it was a 'hepa' model) it was dirty and dusty. Vacuuming was frustrating and irritating.
It was time for a new vacuum cleaner and so I went to an actual vacuum cleaner store to try out different models. Prior to that visit, I had never even heard of the Miele. After trying out several Dyson models, it was love at first sight with the Miele Callisto! I came home and vacuumed with my old Hoover wind tunnel, then immediately vacuumed with the Miele and couldn't believe how much it picked up! I'm not the type of person who could have ever imagined myself paying this much for a vacuum cleaner, but I'm so glad I did!! It was worth it!!
Here's my summary:
What I like:
* It's so easy to use that I don't mind vacuuming and dusting (as much!).
* The Miele picks up dog hair from all floor types - carpet, linoleum, tile, and hardwood. Yeah!
* I don't sneeze while I'm vacuuming because it's not spitting out any dusty exhaust.
* There's a special setting to use (with lower suction) for cleaning curtains.
* The hose is powered, so the beater brush is powered (I didn't care for the Miele models with air-powered brushes).
* The attachments (except for the hardwood floor attachment) fit on the unit so they won't get lost.
* The turbobrush head swivels, which makes it very easy to vacuum around tables, couches, whatever.
* The Miele has really good suction right up until it's time to change the bag. My Hoover would have great suction for a few times, and then went downhill fast!
* This Miele has a telescoping wand which makes it super easy to clean the tops of paintings, ceiling fans, and chandeliers.
* It's small, and light, and doesn't take up much space in my closet. My old Hoover was a tank... big, awkward, and heavy!
What I didn't like:
* The power cord is too short. If it was about 5' longer, it would be perfect.
* The consumables (bags, HEPA filter) are expensive.

Electrolux EL6988E Oxygen Canister Vacuum Review

Electrolux EL6988E Oxygen Canister Vacuum
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)

We had two mid-range Kenmore canister vacs prior to this.
The Electrolux Oxygen (EL6988E) is many ways better and many ways worse.
Check out the list for what matters most to you.
Prices bounce around. Low tide for this model is about 325 delivered.
Better:
* Quieter (significantly)
- Power head pivots in both directions and has larger wheels. Easier to maneuver.
- Wand length adjusts (34" to 47")
- 2-year warranty (vs 1-year for Kenmore)
- LED headlights & height indicator
- Bag-full indicator light (Kenmore's is less visible)Toss-up:
- Suction is quite good
- 3rd party bags: 36 Oxygen Vacuum Bags are available at 50% savings (as with Kenmore)
- Auto shut-off when motor overheats or power head stalls
- Weight: 22.8 lbs (16.9 without power head). Kenmore is 21.5 lbs (16.3)
- Floor Brush: Electrolux is 60 % wider (13.7" vs 8.5") (but suction is less concentrated)
- Both Kenmores died after 5.5 years. Will Electrolux last longer?Worse:
* Cord is only 20.3 ft long (Kenmore is 30% longer. 26.5 ft. Very handy.)
* Dust bag is 40% smaller (appx 180 vs 300 cu. in.) (More expense, more hassle)
* Hose is flimsy (Big difference vs Kenmore) (and replacement is $47)
* Lacks swivel hose mount on base unit. (Hose kinks and will eventually crack)
* Power switch is on the base, not the handle. (and is easily confused with the cord-retract button)
* Floor brush can't be stored on-board (Small nozzle & furniture brush store on the wand handle)
* Generic nozzles won't fit. Only Electrolux nozzles.
* More expensive. (Check Panasonic model that's almost identical to the Kenmores we had.)
- Manual is less useful. Fewer tips & troubleshooting details. Doesn't include full parts diagram & part numbers. Electrolux provides fewer product specifications at their Web site.
I am comparing to a 2005 Kenmore mid-range vac. Current models may differ.
Check reviews for the Panasonic MC-CG902 Canister Vacuum Cleaner. It's about identical to the mid-range Sears Kenmore canister vac.
Summary: A good vac with lots of flaws: 3.5 stars.

I did A LOT of research and finally decided on this vacuum and I'm so happy with it. It's not loud like the others I looked at, it has many suction options, works fantastic on wood floors, tile and large area rugs. Another great thing is that it is light only 13lbs, easy to maneuver and it cleans SO WELL, you will not be disappointed with this vacuum.
Miele is a German company that has been tried and true.

Miele S5981 Capricorn with SEB-236 Power brush Review

Miele S5981 Capricorn with SEB-236 Power brush
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I know alot of people would balk at the idea of paying this much for a vaccum cleaner, understandably so. Quite honestly, I spent a long time weighing my options and researching for this purchase. In the end I went with this one because of the quality, the warranty and how well it worked.
Previously owned a Hoover Windtunnel upright, and there is just simple no comparison, in fact the Hoover is joke. It was a complete tank of a machine, hard to move around, attachments were useless and you could not fit into alot of areas. And in the end, it did was not even close to as effective at cleaning floors, which is really all that matters.
The reasons for going with the Miele:
How effectively it cleans floors! My carpets never looked so good, my hardwood and tile were never to easy to clean.
Long-term investment. You might get sick of a Miele vacuum before it breaks on you.
Technology inside is second to none.
Tried and true design, German engineering and quality. The parts have a nice feel to them, thick plastics, horse-hair brushes. Nothing felt cheap, or loose or flimsy.
Exceptionally quiet.
Size of the machine is small, but make no mistake it is incredibly powerful. About the best feature I have noticed so far about this machine, going from an upright, is the ability to get into tight spaces I could not before.
Controls on the handle are more convenient than I gave credit too before I purchased. Although you can save a decent chunk of change by getting the Calisto with a knob or two instead, if you don't mind. Same motor and power as the Capricorn.
The air quality, oh the air quality! Something we never thought important before, but we don't smell ONE thing while vacuuming. Even if you stick your face over the exhaust! They aren't kidding about these filters, they work and work well. No dust spitting back out into your house all over your furniture.
Some other features that are nice are the onboard attachments, the wheels on the canister that move in any direction (very smart feature), Warning lights on the machine letting you know bag is filled, or machine is over-heated. Cord-wrap is also excellent, and strong. Hard floor tool does an excellent job, simply excellent, you will never need a broom again.
I find almost nothing I don't like about the machine so far, except that occasionally you hit the wrong button on the hand controls unintentionally.
Otherwise the fit and finish is superb, German quality through and through, a real Mercedes of Vacuum cleaners. Some vaccum cleaners (actually most) just re-distribute the dust and dirt in your house. This once truly gets rid of it. And very nice to look at too. : )

Miele SBB300-3 Parquet Floor Brush Review

Miele SBB300-3 Parquet Floor Brush
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The original parquet brush with an even line of stiff bristles caught the dust but just moved larger debris along the floor. This new brush is a great redesign, perfect for hardwood floors. The bristles are spaced alternating high and low allowing the necessary airspace to capture more than just dust. The head rotates easily for access to those difficult to reach places. However, it does nothing but floors, and since most people have a rug & floor combination it becomes just one more vacuum head that you have to haul around.
Don't get me wrong, if you care about your hardwood floors ,this is a keeper. I am buying another for my second vacuum cleaner.
Perfect would be a re-introduction of the original combination tool with rotating head that cleaned rugs and didn't scratch the heck out of hardwood floors.
Although Miele purports to love communication from consumers, they have never answered any of the emails I've sent suggesting that they re-introduce the original combination tool.

Miele S5281 Callisto HEPA Canister Vacuum Cleaner w/ Electric Power Brush and Floor Brush Review

Miele S5281 Callisto HEPA Canister Vacuum Cleaner w/ Electric Power Brush and Floor Brush
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Miele cleaner was recommended to us. The wood floor attachment gets into every corner - it's incredible compared to the thing we had. The electric powered carpet head also works very well. Very pleased with the unit.
In trying to decide which model to buy. started at the Miele web site where they list features - such as the electric powered carpet head - included in certain models. However on the web I found different prices for the same model, and it seems that for any one model what different web sites include is not be the same - specifically for the model I bought, Callisto, there were several web sites advertizing that model but in the fine print they said it included the vacuum powered carpet head, not the far superior, and more expensive - electric powered head.
The unit we have is great - just be careful to check what some of the vendors are offering...

Miele STB 205-3 Turbo Plus Power Nozzle Attachment Review

Miele STB 205-3 Turbo Plus Power Nozzle Attachment
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Miele vacuum cleaner is already a substantial investment, but I recommend the turbobrush for those models that don't come with one. It's an especially useful add-on for those with pets, because the regular-head does only a fair job of picking up our golden retriever's shedded hair. I could just manage it by tipping the regular brush, but this is not nearly as effective as the Turbo. The Turbo rotates extremely fast (sorry, but the company supplies no specs on how fast), and has longer, more effective brushes to scoop up pet hair and any other kind of debris. This model (205-3) fits Miele vaccums only, but Model STB 201 Vario's adapter enables Turbo to attach to non-Miele vaccums with suction tubes that are between 30 and 38 mm. One other note: There's no storage cover; in fact, this one was not even wrapped in plastic for protection during transit. However, there was no damage.
The rugs look noticeably cleaner with the Turbo, as the brushes also tend to fluff them for more effective vacuuming of debris. The difference is most noticeable on medium to heavy shag rugs. There's one adjustment, a "slide" that you push to one side when going over heavy pile. The Turbo head adds a little of its own noise, a steady, non-annoying WHIRRRR as it speeds around. It's light enough to lift onto furniture that needs cleaning. The instructions (which come in 14 languages) show how to remove hair, thread, etc. stubbornly caught on the brushes--either by cutting them away at the opening, or by removing the cover and either cutting or pulling manually. The instructions also include the line, "Do not use on people or animals," a certain ice-breaker at your next social function.
Overall, I'd recommend this as an immediate purchase for those with pets that shed (or get a model that comes with the Turbo). Otherwise, you may wish to wait and see whether the Miele on its own does a satisfactory job.

Miele is a family-owned German manufacturer of home appliances. The company's philosophy of continuous improvement ("Immer Besser") has made them a favorite throughout the world. Their products don't have bargain prices, but provide value in high quality design and manufacturing that results in superior performance and durability. Miele was founded in 1899 and began producing vacuum cleaners in 1927; their vacuums have become favorites of professionals worldwide, including many top-end hotel staffs.
The Miele S2 line of canister vacuums is new for 2009, offering the quality and many of Miele's standard features at a lower price. There are four S2 models, all sharing the same 1200-watt base vacuum. The canister has six power settings and a standard air filter that catches 94% of particles down to 0.3 microns. The Olympus model is the lowest priced of the S2 line, and features a floor/carpet combo head (SBD350-3), non-electric hose and a telescoping wand. The Capri model substitutes the air-powered Turbobrush (STB205-3) for the floor/carpet combo head, and adds the Parquet Floor Brush (SBB-3). The Delphi model substitutes a power head (SEB217-3), electric hose (SES116) and electric telescoping wand (SET220) for the non-powered components of the Olympus. The Titan model retains the power components of the Delphi and adds the parquet floor brush (SBB-3) and active HEPA filter.
Note that all S2 models can support the power hose and brush, but only the Delphi and Titan include it as part of the package. Similarly, all S2 models support the active HEPA filter, but only the Titan includes it in its package. If you don't currently need a power head you can buy the Olympus or Capri and add the power components later; you'll pay more in the end, but you won't have to buy power components now that you may not need for a few years. The non-electric combo head works well on smooth flooring, is usable on short-pile carpet, and is difficult to use on deeper-pile carpet.
Like all Miele vacuum cleaners, the S2 is well designed and manufactured in Germany. The vacuum has a range of 29.5 feet from the end of the self-retracting power cord to the tip of the brush. The unit is light (under 10 lbs), nicely balanced and moves easily in any direction on its casters. The top-exhaust design allows you to vacuum easily with the canister standing up, such as on steps. The motor is surprisingly quiet, particularly at the lower power levels. The six power levels allow you to switch from floors and carpets to shelves and tabletops without accidentally grabbing objects or papers instead of dirt or dust.
The S2 cleans very well and is a pleasure to use. The base has notches in which the hose can be parked, one for when the base is on its wheels, one for when the base is standing. This is a great touch, useful for temporarily standing the hose while you move a piece of furniture, and helpful for storing the vacuum in a closet without breaking down the hose and wand. Perhaps the only weakness of the S2 is the "varioclip" for tool storage, which rides somewhat uncomfortably on the hose rather than more naturally on the base. Changing the filter and bag are each a snap, and an indicator tells you when the bag is full.
Finally, what compromises does the S2 line make from the more expensive S4 and S5 lines? The most obvious changes are to external components: a few parts, such as the bumper strip that surrounds the canister, are made from hard plastic rather than softer rubber. The operating radius is a few feet shorter (due to a shorter power cord), and the accessory brushes use some lower-cost materials (nylon versus natural bristle brush, plastic instead of metal). Inside, the S2 canister uses Miele's "CleanAir System" construction, while the S4 and S5 canister use its "Sealed System." Miele doesn't offer a detailed comparison of the two, but one might assume the latter system provides an extra measure of dust capture that may be more appropriate for those with allergic sensitivities.
The changes made to lower the price of the S2 line will make small differences in daily use, but shouldn't compromise the vacuum's core ability to clean. Those who are especially sensitive to dust should consider the HEPA-equipped Titan model, or stepping up to the S4 or S5; those with less stringent needs will find the S2 a terrific entry point to the Miele line of high quality vacuums. If budget is no issue, look at the S5 line, but if value-per-dollar is a major consideration, the S2 line will bring you Miele's engineering and manufacturing prowess at a more affordable price. Miele S4 Series Lightweight Canister Vacuum Cleaners Review

First, let me just say that prior to buying the Miele Antares, I owned a different ("low-end") Miele vacuum for 16 years. I ran it all the time, it was totally ahead of its time in terms of performance and style, and I never once serviced it.
However, after 16 years, it needed minor servicing, and though they told me at the shop that it still had some life left in it (the vacuum store told me that Miele motors are built to last for 20 years), I decided to trade in my old Miele and upgrade to the Antares. WOW! This unit is amazing. It's quiet, it's lighter, it has variable settings for suction power, and it's really powerful. I highly recommend investing in the add-on turbo brush ($100), especially if you have pets. (I hate to vacuum, but I do have pets, and the turbo brush literally scrubs the fur out of your carpet.)
But even if you own an old Miele, like my previous one, you could just buy the turbo brush and add it on--the Miele design is consistent enough that often the same components can be used for multiple models, covering a wide span of years (for example, the Antares uses exactly the same vacuum cleaner bags that my 16-year-old Miele used).
I recommend that you don't waste your time with vacuum cleaners that will only last 3-5 years. Read the user reviews online of other competing products that don't last nearly as long, and then buy a Miele.

Miele Olympus S2120 Canister Vacuum Cleaner Review

The best vacuum I ever had! Quiet, light and powerful. Switching between hardwood floor and carpets is as easy as switching the flip with the one foot. It is perfect. We were laughing with my husband that the more expensive model must be brewing coffee or offering the massage because it is hard to imagine even better performance :-)
Oh and one more amazing thing. I ordered it on Sunday and I had it delivered by Tuesday! Free shipping!
