Compared to weak re-chargeable portable hand vacs, this one has the power to really clean up a mess, and yes,it sucks up pet hair, faster than Wall Street sucks up TARP Funds.

Black & Decker 4.8-Volt Compact Cordless HandVac, CHV4800 Review

I bought this for the little things, and for that it works- as long as it doesn't take you more than about 3-4 minutes to clean up. The battery on this thing sucks. It takes a long time to get a full charge and a full charge means only about 4 minutes of battery usage.
Save yourself the frustration and spend the extra few dollars to get a higher quality vacuum.

Black & Decker HV9010P Retriever Pet-Series Cyclonic-Action Corded Dustbuster and Blower Review

Black and Decker HV9010P Retriever Pet-Series Cyclonic-Action Corded Dustbuster and Blower

My son's dog is the ideal dog with one exception. He sheds like crazy! I can vacuum the wood floor but the furniture turns into a furry mess when he rubs against it. I've bought every gadget that I could find to try to deal with this with no avail. This vacuum pulls the hair from the fabric with little time and effort. The rubber nubs instead of bristles on the brush really do the trick. I hope that larger vacuums will follow with this concept.

Designed for pet-hair cleanup, this corded vacuum cleaner offers the power of an upright in the size of a hand vacuum. It quickly removes pet hair from most household surfaces including floors, carpet, upholstery, bedding, auto interiors, stairs, and tight household spaces. Specialized rubber bristles on its retriever turbo brush generate an electrostatic charge to pick up and release pet hair better than standard turbo brushes. The unit comes with a flexible crevice hose for getting into tight spots, plus it can be converted into a blower for removing hair and dirt from hard-to-clean areas. Even more, its translucent blow and turbo head allows for seeing the pet hair and debris that's being picked up. The vacuum's Cyclonic Action keeps dirt off the filter so the suction power stays stronger longer, and its 24-ounce removable translucent bowl empties with one easy step into the trash. Other highlights include three-stage filtration for cleaner air exhaust, a 20-foot power cord, and a convenient cord wrap for storage when not in use. The 750-watt vacuum cleaner measures 15-1/2 by 6-2/7 by 7-4/5 inches and carries a two-year warranty.

Bissell 1715U Spotlifter Cordless Handheld Carpet Cleaner Review

Bissell 1715U Spotlifter Cordless Handheld Carpet Cleaner
Average Reviews:

We purchased one of these a while back, and received another as a gift. The Spotlifter works, to some extent, but there are serious flaws.
First, as noted by another reviewer, the battery life is limited. The limitation is not just in short term use (the unit runs out of juice very quickly) but in terms of long term battery life. I would be shocked if someone got more than a year's life out of the unit, based on our experience with both of the Spotlifters we owned.
Secondly, while not intended to deal with large stains or spills (we had floor standing deep cleaners for those purposes), the Spotlifter is intended to be quick to fill up, operate, and clean. While you can get the unit up and running pretty quickly (as long as the battery lasts), the reservoir and recovery tanks are just too small to deal with a serious stain. Not only is the running time limited, but the fluid becomes exhausted in a hurry. This might be a good product to have around if you have a white carpet, no dogs or children, and spill red wine once a week. This is not a good product for owners of pets larger than 10 lbs, or children less than 40 lbs.
Finally, there are some minor inconveniences in filling and emptying the tank, but these are fairly trivial compared with the more serious problems.
