Dirt Devil SE3890 Purpose for Pets Portable Extractor Review

Dirt Devil SE3890 Purpose for Pets Portable Extractor
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I'm running a small animal shelter and have constantly animals living inside my home as well. Home has lots of carpet and with 9 cats right now there is lot's of hairball vomating with lots of liquid. I tried many things already to clean this mess but the Dirt Devil Portable Extractor is so far the best product for this kind of mess. I have to say that I did not have to use it for removing urine yet so I can't rate that but for puke and stomache liquid this product is amazing. I also found out that you don't necessarily have to use warm or hot water to clean the mess as indicated in the instructions. It cleans very well with cold water which is important when you want the product handy and ready at all times. The water tank of this product needs to be filled with a water soap mix (easy to do and soap comes with first purchase)and you just don't use all the soap and water on all accidents the animals might have and so I tried if I can simply remove the water tank after use (with left over soapy water) and store it next to the Dirt Devil and it works. Even though the Dirt Devil is very easy to handle it is a pain if you have to fill up and mix the soapy water every time you have to use it (which is in my case almost daily) and because I found out that the Dirt Devil cleans my messes on the carpet also with cold soapy water it became as easy to use as a spray bottle. (Keep in mind that I did not try out Urine removal yet, for that kind of mess you might use the warm/hot water mix in the water tank) Also the waste tank is easy to remove and to clean. The only downfall I found so far is that the soaker pipe is leaking water after the use but I solved this problem by simply leaving the strong suction running for maybe two minutes or so after the use and then the leaking stops. If you use my technique and want to re-use the left over clean water you have to remove the water tank from the unit or it will leak as well. But since the Dirt Devil is so EASY to open and so easy with removing all the parts, cleaning it is a brease and is no proplem even if you have to use it daily. Another small flaw is for me that for very small messes the spray nossle sprays to wide and too much water (like for coffee spills on carpet etc.) It would be great if Dirt Devil would event an adjustable spray nossle but even with its small flaws I give this product two thumps up since it made my live with animals soooooo much easier. Money well spend so far. Regards E. Binder, Maryland

I am buying for the 2nd time. I bought the first time because my daughters diaper kept leaking and I had to find a way of getting rid of the smell. I found 3 different items which looked good so I bought them all. Natures Miracle, Kids and Pets, and Simple Solution. The Kids and pets smelled so strongly on its own I think it was worse than the urine smell. The Simple solution works, but you need to use a lot and it too has its own odor. The Natures Miracle is by far the best and has no residual odor at all. Thank you Natures Miracle you have earned my business for life.

I was skeptically optimistic about this product. I had used another Bissel product for the same purpose, to remove pet vomit, however that Bissel product was hard to come by. By reading the reviews of this product, gave me good reason to try it. So far it has worked out quite well. I am very pleased. I will say, I cannot comment on how it would work on colored carpets. The carpets I have are "white".

I thought I had ruined the carpet six months ago. It's light beige and I had tracked in automotive gease. After reading on the internet, I used WD40 to remove the grease. It worked but I did not have a steamer to use after cleaning with WD40. This left a dirt/grease magnet. A friend brought me a tube of Touvit today. This is UNBELIEVABLE! It took the stains up with very little elbow grease (no pun intended!) I am definitely a fan and will buy more!

Bissell 790 22-Ounce Pet Stain and Odor Remover

Removes blood, vomit and other organic stains quickly and without a trace!
After my cat puked on the carpet I tried four different stain removers none of which worked. They actually made the stain worse.
This product made the stain disappear with ease. I have to say I'm impressed.
Doesn't work for grease, tar, ink etc. For that I highly recommend Rubbermaid Commercial Quality Carpet Spot and Stain Remover.
(I can't seem to find the Rubbermaid product on line but it is available at Menards and elsewhere. It comes in an 18 oz. aerosol can.)
Between these two I've yet to find a stain they won't remove.

Bissell 1425A Little Green ProHeat Review

Bissell 1425A Little Green ProHeat
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
If you've read the majority of the reviews for this product you'll notice there is a consistent problem with the sprayer clogging and no longer working. Here's how to fix it. We originally bought the machine a year and a half ago and it quit spraying after only 2 uses. Bissell replaces it under warranty but the bad thing is that your "new" Little Green is only warranteed for the the rest of the time left on the original one you bought. Of course our replacement quit spraying as well until today when my husband figured out how to fix it. Get some liquid CLR Calcium Lime Rust Remover or Lime-Away product and pour straight into the clean water solution tank. Fill only to about 3/4 of an inch of the CLR in the tank, then turn on the Little Green and push the sprayer button. It will immediately begin spraying again. Let it sit for about 10 minutes, then run the rest of the CLR through. Then run through a tank or two of clean water. The problem is the phosphates in your water that clog the sprayer line. This should get rid of the clogs. I would also follow the advice of running through some clean water before storing your Little Green. Other than the sprayer problem the Little Green is very effective at carpet stains and cleaning.

Winning Colours Multi-Cleaner and Stain Remover (32 Oz) Review

Winning Colours Multi-Cleaner and Stain Remover (32 Oz)

I'm an artist, I paint with acrylics and oils and I have been using this to clean up my spills and bring back brushes that I let dry out. It works like nothing I ever tried and it's non-toxic and totally eco-green. Recently I was going through my closet and I have a bunch of perfectly good shirts that had stains on them that didn't come out in the wash, so I was going to toss them out. I thought maybe I should try the Winning Colours because some of these shirts I only wore once or twice (I'm a slob). So, I soaked them over night in some water and the Winning Colours, put them in the wash and to make a long story short I think I saved a few hundred dollars in shirts. Great stuff, I highly recommend.

This stuff is so awesome! I wound up with quite the large puppy. She was house broken but only if she had constant access to a yard. We didn't. Needless to say she soiled everywhere. I used puppy training pads to soak it up (ironic). Once the liquid was absorbed into the pad, I just sprayed this on the stain, let it sit for about 15 minutes, gave it a quick wipe and stain and odor were GONE! I mean it, there is no stain and no odor left anywhere. You can't even tell where they were and there were ALOT. It's an amazing product and works better than I ever expected.

Nature's Miracle Stain & Odor Remover (1 gallon jug -128-oz) Review

Nature's Miracle Stain and Odor Remover (1 gallon jug -128-oz)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Okay, so after moving into my new house I was hoping beyond all hope that my little pug wouldn't pee on the carpet. Well, here I am five months later and, low and behold, the little stinker strikes! So let me get to the point here. Nature's Miracle does work. However, it works at its best when used in the following manner. When your little pet strikes, take a few paper towels and GENTLY soak up as much of the pee as you can. Repeat this process with many paper towels until you have soaked up as much as you can. DO NOT RUB, DO NOT ADD WATER! Now get yourself a measuring cup, and here is why you buy the gallon sized. Pour between 6-8 ounces of the product over the spot. This is about how much pee comes out of a little dog, so you want to match that. Let the product soak in the spot and dry as long as it needs. Do not simply spray the spot, because, trust me, the pee HAS gone down to the pad, and a little spray will not do the job. Now, after the spot has dried, you may want to apply to spray, just for a little extra treatment. I had a 24 ounce spray bottle that I refilled with the gallon, but it left me with plenty to treat the problem initially the way I had described.

Bissell 797 Pet Odor and Stain Removal Compact Review

Bissell 797 Pet Odor and Stain Removal Compact
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've had this for a while, but don't actually have a deep cleaner... instead I just mix with a bit of water and use on my floor rugs (I have hardwood floors and put rugs in the rooms). Well, a week ago my dog got into the recycling while I was gone, chewed on a tin can right in the middle of my white bedroom rug, and cut her tongue on it. There were thick blood spots all over my rug, and I was sure I'd never get them out. I was in a hurry to go somewhere so I put some of the Bissel on the spots -- didn't even rub it in -- and left with my dog. When we got back about eight hours later, the blood stains were completely gone! My white rug is perfectly white. I couldn't believe it. I was so impressed that I decided to come online and write a review. So if you, like me, have nice rugs and occasionally misbehaving pets, I recommend the Bissel.
(Don't worry, the dog's tongue is fine now too, and she hasn't gotten into the recycling since then... :P)

The Equalizer Carpet Stain and Odor Eliminator (20 oz) Review

The Equalizer Carpet Stain and Odor Eliminator (20 oz)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have a big tote full of bottles of odor remover products - this stuff blows away EVERYTHING we've ever tried for removing cat urine odors.
If you've ever dealt with cat pee - you know how difficult it is to remove that smell...difficult and/ or impossible. This stuff is just amazing... one application has worked in every situation from fresh to aged odors.
The resultant smell is a bit chemical (which is better than cat pee any day). If you're working with carpet or fabric, you can try rubbing a bar of soap (we use safeguard) over the area after it is dry.
One other note - this is a serious chemical with lots of warnings - read the label and keep kids and pets away from the area until it is completely dry. (Tip: for the pets, try putting aluminum foil loosely over the area)

Bissell 1715U Spotlifter Cordless Handheld Carpet Cleaner Review

Bissell 1715U Spotlifter Cordless Handheld Carpet Cleaner
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We purchased one of these a while back, and received another as a gift. The Spotlifter works, to some extent, but there are serious flaws.
First, as noted by another reviewer, the battery life is limited. The limitation is not just in short term use (the unit runs out of juice very quickly) but in terms of long term battery life. I would be shocked if someone got more than a year's life out of the unit, based on our experience with both of the Spotlifters we owned.
Secondly, while not intended to deal with large stains or spills (we had floor standing deep cleaners for those purposes), the Spotlifter is intended to be quick to fill up, operate, and clean. While you can get the unit up and running pretty quickly (as long as the battery lasts), the reservoir and recovery tanks are just too small to deal with a serious stain. Not only is the running time limited, but the fluid becomes exhausted in a hurry. This might be a good product to have around if you have a white carpet, no dogs or children, and spill red wine once a week. This is not a good product for owners of pets larger than 10 lbs, or children less than 40 lbs.
Finally, there are some minor inconveniences in filling and emptying the tank, but these are fairly trivial compared with the more serious problems.

Bissell SpotBot ProHeat Hands-Free Compact Deep Cleaner, 12U9A Review

Bissell SpotBot ProHeat Hands-Free Compact Deep Cleaner, 12U9A
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We have two dogs and two boys. Our youngest dog is a 1 year old beagle, who has been very difficult to potty train! Needless to say, a carpet cleaner is a must-have for us. It is used many times during the week. Prior to the SpotBot, we used way to many paper towels for cleaning up messes that we didn't have time to clean with the large machine.
The fact that we already have a full-size carpet cleaner, that works well, is why we did not buy one of these sooner. I am betting that many others are in the same situation, or are debating between this or a full size cleaner, so this is where I will begin:
First, I will focus on the downfalls of using our full-size carpet cleaner for a small spot/stain-
1) Its size! With as much as we use it, it is not ideal to lug it up and down the stairs of our two floor house. This is especially the case when spots need cleaned both upstairs and downstairs at the same time.
2) The hose on the Hoover model we have is a royal pain. It takes several steps to switch the machine over to use the hand tool. It is a pain to clean. We avoid having to use it because of this. That means we usually end up scrubbing chairs and the stairs by hand, as it is less of a hassle. (If you go for a full-size model, consider looking for one where you do not need the extra steps to switch between the floor and hose modes!)
3) The dirty water holder is large. We usually use the bathtub to clean it. Going through all this trouble for a little stain sucks, especially when you have to do it as often as we do.
4) You should vacuum before using a carpet cleaner. This usually is not a problem for dry stains. However, you cannot vacuum over a wet pet accident! With the full-size cleaner, it is very difficult to just clean one area. We usually end up cleaning a 2'x3' area that surrounds the stain...an un-vacuumed 2'x3' area. This results in dog hair in parts of the carpet cleaner where it does not belong. Again, it is a pain to clean.
5) We cannot leave this machine sitting on a carpeted area. The left-over water from the brushes and such leave a wet spot. We usually move the machine to a hard floor before we even turn it off.
Now, onto the SpotBot-
1) The size is great. It is SOOO much easier to carry around the house and up and down the stairs.
2) It is very easy to switch from the automatic mode to the manual mode (where you use the hose.) Because of this, I do not hesitate to use it for quick clean-ups on the stairs, on our dining room chairs, or in the car. The hand tool is a cinch to clean when you are through, partly because it is not as long as the full-size models.
3) The dirty water bin is easily dumped and cleaned in the sink. It can be carried with one hand.
4) It is not always ideal to vacuum before cleaning. It is easy to clean just the stained area without involving the area around it.
5) We leave the SpotBot out of the way in our dining room for quick access. We have had no problems with it leaking. Now that I have explained why this has been so much easier than our full-sized cleaner, here are some more observations of the SpotBot:
1. There are 3 models of the SpotBot. From what I can tell, they are all almost identical except the Pet model comes with pet cleaning solution and the ProHeat has a water heater. The original does not have Microban protection, whereas the Pet and ProHeat do. (Hint: Compare specs and the pictures of the lady using the machine on Bissell's website.)
--If you plan on getting fresh hot water every time you use the machine, I would pass on the ProHeat model. Consider if you want the Microban protection to decide between the green and pet models.
--If you have a pet, you can get the green model and buy your own pet solution. However, the green one does not have the Microban protection, so it may be worth getting the Pet model.
--If you plan on having the machine ready all the time, get the ProHeat (red) model. The water heater function will heat the water/cleaning solution that has been sitting in the tank since your last use. I have been happy with the heat function. It may not heat it to scorching hot, but warm water still is better than cold.
2. As others have noted, the automatic function does not do the best job at sucking up all the water. It is not much trouble to use the hose to suck up the remaining water. The only downside of this is the need to rinse out the hand attachment after you are through. Even that isn't a big deal and it only takes a second.
3. There are two cycles, plus the manual option. The surface stain cycle runs about 3 minutes, the set-in stain cycle runs about 6 minutes. The machine really does most of the work for you! It was not a primary reason for our purchase, but WOW...this machine has really saved us a ton of work!!! Because this machine is so simple and quick to use, every single pet stain has been properly cleaned. No paper towels have been wasted.
4. A full solution tank lasts about two of the longer 6 minute cycles. It lasts for about 4 of the shorter cycles.
5. The automatic function does an EXCELLENT job. It has gotten out ever spill and every old stain we have used it on. The hand tool does a decent job, though not as good of a job as the automatic function. This may be because I do not scrub one spot for 6 minutes. In fact, I don't think I ever went over the same spot with our full-sized machine for 6 minutes...LOL!
6. If your carpets have not been cleaned in a while, this machine may clean so well that you will have a ring of clean carpet. I noticed a slight ring when I used the SpotBot on a stain in a high-traffic area. For us, this is not a huge issue because we have our carpets professionally cleaned ever 6-12 months and use our full-sized machine in between.
7. This unit is only intended for cleaning small areas. The circle is 8" in diameter, and the area it cleans is approximately 6-7". A full-sized carpet cleaner will be your best bet for cleaning large areas. This machine is better than the full-sized unit for cleaning up individual stains.
8. We only use MAYBE half the recommended cleaner. The stains still come out! I recommend experimenting with this so that you are not using more cleaner than you actually need to.
Since we usually have this ready at all times, when an accident does happen it couldn't be easier! We just grab the machine, plug it in, set it on the stain, and push a button. We carry on with whatever we were doing until the cycle ends. Then, we attach the hand tool to the hose, suck up the excess water, dump and rinse the storage tank, and we are ready for next time!
I think I covered the questions I had before our purchase! I highly recommend this machine!

Remove stubborn spots and stains throughout the home quickly and easily with this compact deep cleaner. The machine provides unique spiral brushing, two separate tanks--a solution tank for clean soapy water and a collection tank for used dirty water, and a user-friendly push-button control panel with status-indicator lights for easy operation. Choose from two automatic SmartSystem cleaning cycles: Surface Stain, which runs for about three minutes, for new stains on the surface of carpeting or Set-In Stain, which runs for about six minutes, for difficult stains that have had time to set in and penetrate carpet fibers. Simply place the cleaner over the designated area, make a selection to start the cycle, and walk away for powerful hands-free cleaning. The machine will begin spraying, brushing, and suctioning up the spot or stain, and it will beep when finished. Push the Pause/Resume button to check the status of the cleaning cycle (press once to pause and again to resume), or press the Stop button to stop the automatic cleaning cycle all together. The cleaner also offers a Manual/Hose option for removing spots and stains manually from upholstery, car interiors, stairs, and other surfaces. Furthermore, it comes with a built-in heater, which heats hot tap water up to 25 degrees hotter for maximum results--or can be turned off for a no-heat option when cleaning delicate wool or oriental rugs. Other highlights include a 3 amp motor, a 32-ounce tank capacity, a flexible hose, a 16-foot power cord, convenient cord storage, and microban antimicrobial product protection, which fights the growth of odor-causing bacteria, mold, and mildew in the cleaner. An on-board 3-inch tough-stain tool comes included, as well as an 8-ounce bottle of Little Green Formula and a 16-ounce bottle of OxyGen 2 Formula. The deep cleaner measures 9-1/2 by 20 by 14 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty.

Bissell 14005 Little Green Compact Carpet Cleaner Review

Bissell 14005 Little Green Compact Carpet Cleaner
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Bissell 14005 Little Green verses Hoover F5411 Steamvac Jr.
I've used both of these mini shampooers and was not entirely satisfied with either, but I preferred the Bissell's Little Green over Hoover's Steamvac Jr. and here's why:
I first had the Little Green for about five years. It was a great little vac with only minor problems. The fill and empty containers are removable from the unit for convenient filling and emptying. There is a cord winder built onto the unit, the hose wraps conveniently around the unit and locks into place, and the shape and size are convenient for most applications including stairs and storage.
The problems I had with the Little Green:
- It would occasionally leak a bit. The water seemed to be coming from where the hose connects to the base. It was a small drip leak that was easily solved by emptying the clean water tank after each use. We used ours so frequently that I sometimes left clean water in the tank during storage to avoid wasting cleaning solution.
- My biggest problem with the Little Green was the inability to completely clean the dirty water tank. I had four cats when I first bought the Little Green and eventually had four kids. The Little Green made it through a number of illnesses with us above and beyond pet accidents. The dirty water tank became filthy and unsanitary and was not designed to be dismantled for thorough cleaning. Eventually, the smell became too great and I had to dispose of the tank. I decided it was time to try a new spot shampooer - one that had a cleanable tank.
That's when I decided to try the Hoover Steamvac Jr. Both the Little Green and the Hoover spray and suck reasonably well for a small machine. As far as actual cleaning quality, the two are comparable. However, I found the Hoover to be bulky and a pain and its only redeeming quality, in my opinion, was that I am able to thoroughly clean the dirty water tank.
The problems I had with the Hoover F5411 Steamvac Jr.:
- The tanks are the base of the unit and are not removable. In order to fill the clean water tank, you have to either maneuver the entire unit under the faucet and aim at a one inch hole in the portion of the unit that houses the motor, or you have to dismantle the machine and still maneuver the largest part of it under your faucet or use a bucket.
- The tanks are a single bucket-style unit separated by a divider. They are not individual parts. When you dump the dirty water, if you have the unit fully assembled, the clean water will slosh around. If you dismantle the machine to empty it, you will also be emptying the clean water tank.
- The top portion that houses the motor also has a filter that sits down in the dirty water tank, so if you dismantle the machine to fill or empty it, you are forced to place the motor housing with hose and cord in a tub or sink or get your floor dirty and wet.
- The machine is round. It doesn't fit well on stairs nor is it a convenient shape to store.
- There is no cord storage on this unit and no convenient way to store the cord or keep it out of your way when you are filling, emptying, or storing. You can wrap it around the base of the handle, but it usually does not stay in place if you empty the tank and tends to get in the way of using the handle to carry the machine.
- The Steamvac Jr. does have a spot to store the hose, but I find it an inconvenient and cumbersome position.
I'm currently saving my pennies to buy another Little Green. The little Hoover just makes me more angry than satisfied and I've taken to simply letting stains set in instead of hassle with the obnoxious machine.
I would recommend avoiding the Proheat Little Green. It seems the parts are not designed to work well with the heat and tend to break down. Hot tap water in the standard Little Green works well and this is coming from a germaphobe whose hands are raw from overwashing. If it's clean enough for me, it's probably more than clean enough for you. If you're looking for a spot shampooer, the Little Green is your best bet.

Bissell SpotBot Pet Hands-Free Compact Deep Cleaner, Blue Illusion, 1200A Review

Bissell SpotBot Pet Hands-Free Compact Deep Cleaner, Blue Illusion, 1200A
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The other night my dog got into the cat's litter box (I use Fresh Step crystals - those crystals don't sit well in a dogs stomach) and she must have had a real fancy feast. I awoke to her vomiting all over my freshly dry cleaned comforter, and when I got up saw piles of diarrhea and more vomit in two bedrooms and two bathrooms. I'm thinking to myself, "This girl planned this," because just three days ago I had my carpeting professionally cleaned.
I didn't have time to do anything more than wipe up as much of the diarrhea and vomit as I could (and to tend to Joon's stomach, of course), as I was running late for an appointment. While I was out, I remembered seeing a commercial for this product, so on the way home, I picked it up.
When I had finished collecting any of the refuse that had dried while I was out, I approached this with skepticism. After all, it is a little difficult to believe that all you have to do is set the unit down over the stain, press a button, and then walk away.
But that's all you have to do. I was amazed at the simplicity of the design, and how easy it is to disconnect the collection and solution tanks. On the solution tank, Bissell has two sets of markings: one for use with their OxyGen2 product (which I haven't used yet), water, and formula; and another for water and formula alone. Those markings are very clear, and are a welcome design. There are three buttons to press: one for regular surface stains; another for set-in stains, and another to allow for manual use with the hose. When I pressed the surface stain button, I watched for a while as the unit switched between spray, suction, and brush functions. I have to say that watching the product work through the "Hands Free Cleaning Window" was pretty, er, cool. (Yeah, so I'm a dork. )
I walked away for a moment, and then heard the unit beep, indicating that it was done. I'm hearing impaired, and have a difficult time with high tones. I wasn't expecting to hear this, but I did - as clear as a bell - and I was at the opposite end of the apartment. I approached the unit with skepticism, but when I lifted it off the spot, the stains were gone. I proceeded to set the unit down on all of the spots throughout the apartment, coming back to it every time it beeped. It cleaned every spot.
This was by far the most pleasant, and the least physically exhausting experience I've ever had with a so-called steam or deep cleaner - and that "least physically exhausting" part is a big one for me.
Still skeptical, though, I thought to myself: Just see when it dries; the stains won't really be gone. This morning, however, every single spot had dried, and there wasn't an issue with the carpet feeling stiff due to soapiness.
As an aside, and as a comment to another review: This unit wasn't built or designed to clean an ENTIRE area rug, or, of course, anything larger. That's the purvey of large steam cleaners. It's called "SpotBot" for a reason. And it executes perfectly.
EDIT 8/22/07: The same dog got into something else, and left a mess of vomit and diarrhea all over the apartment. Again. (No, I'm not trying to poison my dogs, and this doesn't happen often.) Some of the diarrhea had occurred in the night, and it was stiff and wouldn't rub out using the hand brush. But using the hands-free option got the job done.
I feel very badly for my dog, of course, but at the same time am thankful to have had this unit. It made a world of difference. Every pet owner should have one.
ALSO, 2 TIPS for those who don't think the hands-free option retrieves enough water during its cycle:
1) After using the hands-free, detach the manual hose and use that suction, or;
2) Empty the solution tank, and run the hands-free option again. No water/formula will eject, so you'll have a couple of minutes of "pure" suction.
EDIT 8/24: For those interested, my dog is now fine. :-)

Bissell 0801 Oxy GEN2 Multi Purpose Oxygen Boost -32oz Review

Bissell 0801 Oxy GEN2 Multi Purpose Oxygen Boost -32oz
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I hate to burst everyone's bubble. I've used this product with my Spotbot, because it came with it. I've used it in my Hoover Steamvac. I've used both the Spotbot and Steamvac without it. I have two kids and a dog that pees everywhere and I see no difference.
Spotbot is an excellent spot cleaner and it works perfectly well without OxyGen. I get all sorts of spots out with it and no need for OxyGen. Perhaps that's why everyone is getting such marvelous results. It's the Spotbot with regular detergent, not the OxyGen.
One big drawback to using OxyGen is the Spotbot manual instructs us to discard the unused solution if it contains OxyGen, meaning I can't leave it in my Spotbot. I don't have to do that with plain regular detergent. Since I must mix the OxyGen with water and detergent, I have to discard the detergent and OxyGen, which feels like a waste.
Personally, I don't think this product does any harm. It just doesn't do much good. Spend the extra money elsewhere.

Bissell SpotBot Hands-Free Compact Deep Carpet Cleaner, 1200B Review

Bissell SpotBot Hands-Free Compact Deep Carpet Cleaner, 1200B
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Hundreds and hundreds of reviews below this one, so here's a summary of all of the three hundred or so reviews below this one:
1. Almost everyone is a fanatical lover of this product. Sometimes it takes two or even three applications, but it seems to work except on some red stains, which any carpet cleaner will tell you are difficult. Otherwise, pet stains, and even very old stains are gone without a trace (we've tried this on a couple of *ten year old stains* and it pulled them right out), even after trying other devices and solutions that did not work. (My note for vomit or other stains of similar consistency, first clean as much as possible using the back of a knife, held at a 45 degree angle and scrape towards the center of the stain, cleaning the knife frequently or you'll just push the vomit into the carpet, though most report not doing this and it being completely clean anyway). People really like that you just start it and walk away, you don't have to monitor it.
2. The product cleans so well, used on a dirty carpet, you'll see circles that are cleaner than the rest of the carpet. Using the manual wand to soak up the solution when it is done will help, by spreading the cleaning solution into the non-cleaned area as you soak it up. Otherwise, you may have to use a regular machine to clean the entire carpet after you use this on a very dirty carpet.
3. People also report that it leaves the carpet VERY wet. But again, the manual wand used afterwards will take up the excess water. Tilt the wand so that the hose is up at about a 45 degree angle and run it slowly with medium pressure downward and most of the water will be sucked up. You can see the water getting sucked up from the side of the wand.
4. The best technique is to use a spray bottle of cleaning solution, diluted as directed for the machine, spraying the affected area, and using only water in this machine. It will use less of the expensive solutions, is just about as effective, and will not leave an excess of soap on the carpet. If you don't use the spray bottle technique, and instead you put the soap in the tank, 6 months later, the soap residue that is left on the carpet will attract its own dirt and so you'll have to reclean, but the spray bottle technique doesn't have this problem. So spray, turn the machine on, and wand up the excess water.
5. Some people report that the two included solutions work the best, others say that with the spray bottle technique it doesn't matter and others say using Costco carpet cleaning solution in the gallon jug works as well but is cheaper. One reported that vinegar and water worked and didn't smell when dry, but I don't think I'm gutsy enough to try that. Citrus based solutions and probably vinegar will damage the inside of it.
6. Some have reported that it may take some effort to get it to work at first. Check to make sure the containers are pushed all the way in. If that doesn't fix it, look at the FAQs on the Bissell web site in the support section for more detailed instructions. And note, don't do what we did at first, which is to put the water in the wrong tank. You put the water in the tank at the BACK of the unit. The other tank is where the dirty solution goes. You fill the tank that has a screw cap on the bottom of it. No screw cap? You've got the wrong tank.
7. Don't leave the tanks full, they leak. Run the unit on manual with *no* water in the tank for a few seconds to suck the solution out of the hose between uses or it may get moldy.
The product is every bit as good as what is written here. We've used it a couple of times. Don't put soap in it, the soap only goes in a your own separately purchased spray bottle used before you use the machine: nothing but water in the machine, and empty both tanks between uses. I just saved you hours of reading the remaining 300 reviews.
We bought the remanufactured version and haven't had any problems. Thumbs up.
Finally, when you have put your toe in the carpet cleaning waters, look at the Hoover F5914-900 SteamVac with Clean Surge for a full room carpet cleaner. It doesn't spot clean as well as this one, but you can do a whole room in under an hour, and it sucks the water back out of the carpet so thoroughly, the carpet dries in about an hour - faster if you blow it with a fan. Worth every penny. That one needs to be cleaned between uses (about 15 mins), so it takes a little more time to use. The Bissell is just a load and go product. The Hoover is more of an event.

The SpotBot from Bissell takes care of carpet stains that are new, old, large, small, and everything in between. In one surface stain cycle, the Unique Spiral Brushing action completes over 400 cleaning revolutions, for thorough and effective removal of tough stains. Red wine, cola, fruit juice, coffee, and even pets stains permanently disappear under the powerful cleaning bristles of this compact green cleaning machine. For best results, use Bissell's specially formulated chemicals like OxyGen II and Little Green Formula.
The SpotBot has two cleaning modes: hands-free and manual. In hands-free mode, the SpotBot is easier to use than a toaster oven. Just fill with water and cleaning fluid, select your stain type, and then walk away. Within seven minutes, its 24-inch circumference cleaning head does everything else for you. For larger stains or ones that require some extra elbow grease, use the Tough Stain Brush that attaches to the hose. The hose and brush are stored on board for versatile cleaning of stairs, auto, and upholstery.

Before treating any stain, you should first:
Gently scrape up semi-solids with a spoon or spatula. Do not use a knife or other utensil with sharp edges because it could damage the carpet or upholstery.
Blot up liquids with an absorbent cloth or paper towels. White materials are recommended because certain dyes may bleed and make the stain worse.
Remove the remaining semi-solids and residue with a sweeper or vacuum.
Be sure to pre-test any spot removal solutions or chemicals on an inconspicuous area first. This is extremely important; different dyes and materials could be damaged or discolored by a cleaning solution. If such a change should occur, try a different solution or call a professional.
