Robotic Vacuum Review

Just got this, and put it to work in my kitchen. It got to work roaming around, suctioning up the dog hair. When I came back at the end of the day and checked it, it had done a very admirable job of cleaning, all at about 1/3 to 1/4 the price of the Roomba. Will I still need to sweep? Absolutely. It can't get right up next to walls or in corners. But from what I read, people that own the Roomba still have to sweep, too. And this was alot less and there don't appear to be any expendable items (dust filter, swiffer cloth), that you can't obtain locally and cheaply by being a bit ingenious and handy with a pair of scissors.
One point - I don't think it will do well on carpets. No beater brush, and the suction isn't that strong. The test will be how long does it last. But so far for the money, I am pleased! It helps keep things clean between your own cleanings.
Update, after one month: This little guy is still doing a great job. I've seen it other places on Amazon for less than what I paid. If you can get it for less than $50, then you should definitly go for it. However, it really is only for hard wood or tile floors.
Update Feb 16 2009 - A couple of months ago, the little guy stopped taking a charge. I am debating whether or not to try and by replacement batteries (not cheap) to see if that will fix the problem, or just chucking it all together. I hate to do that, but I also hate throwing money at a problem not knowing if it will fix it or not.

Fully Automatic Robotic Vacuum Cleaner Review

First off this vacuum was given to my wife as a gift. So I can't really say if it's with buying but I can tell you it's with using. I feel that it sweeps great and works well in open areas as well as cleaning under Furniture. It also a great way to great multi task; you just it on and let it go and then you and do something else. Cleans great on carpet and hard floors. There are some down sides to this vacuum. It takes a long to sweep and it always seems to miss something on the floor. It would be a lot faster to use a normal plug in vacuum to sweep and a lot of times you will have to go back and sweep places that the vacuum missed. But still it's cool to say I have a robot that cleans.
So all in all if you get this vacuum as a gift I think you will like it. If you buy it I don't think you will feel that you're getting your moneys worth.

Roomba 440 Cordless Robot Vacuum Review

This is my second Roomba and I love them. If you have hard wood floors and no time to sweep this is gold! Be aware that they still aren't perfect. It will get caught on cords, and try to kill itself with a lost sock. You will probably be replacing it in 2 years. That said I run mine twice a week and love it.

iTouchless Robotic Intelligent Vacuum Cleaner Review

As a former Roomba owner I had high hopes for the iTouchless. However, it did not live up to my expectations.
The good points. The iTouchless is quieter than the Roomba and doesn't bang into walls and furniture with the same zest the Roomba does. The brush is a lot fuller and better quality than the one in the Roomba Discovery. Compared to other robotic vacuums, this is priced just right.
Now for the bad. The collection bin is small and has to be emptied with every use. The brushes and roller bar do not snap out like the Roomba. The iTouchless requires you to use a screwdriver to open this area up to clean the brushes. The device has a raised area on top that works like a handle which makes it great for picking it up. On the negative side though it increases the vertical height of the unit causing it to get hung up under cabinets a lot more often than the Roomba. Lastly, it wouldn't budge on my carpet, which is a frisee, so I can't say for sure if it would work on a low profile rug or not.

Neato XV-11 All Floor Robotic Vacuum System Review

Neato XV-11 All Floor Robotic Vacuum System

I really like this robotic vacuum. It cleans a ridiculous amount of pet hair and dust from my carpet! I used a Roomba, which was fairly good but the drawback was it couldn't navigate to other rooms and back as well as the Neato does. The other drawback was it couldn't figure out how to get onto area carpets without the spinning brush on the front getting stuck. For the Neato, this is no problem at all. Instead of bouncing all around looking for light houses it will detect doorways and move from room to room in a more logical fashion.
The suction and cleaning ability is amazing. I would place the suction power closer to an actual upright vacuum. The noise level is a bit quieter than an upright and maybe a little louder than the whine of a Roomba. There is significantly less bumping, which overall, makes the Neato quieter. It still bumps into things (mostly table legs) from time to time but nowhere near as hard or as frequent.
Battery life is adequate. About an hour to 90 minutes I've seen. I have several large rooms for it to work on and it doesn't do them both in a single charge. The nice thing about the Neato is it will recharge itself (2-3 hours) when the battery runs out then it will resume exactly where it left off to complete the job.
Coverage is very good. It does seem to miss very small parts of the room but nothing major. I have debris from a litter box for it to clean up and it does get nearly every single scrap that comes out. I have it scheduled to run nightly and it picks up way more dust and fur than the Roomba.
If you don't want the Neato to go somewhere your only choice is to close the door or place down a black magnetic strip. Very ugly compared to Roomba's lighthouse solution.
Another thing to mention is there is no option for it to clean a small area. It has to do the entire job.
I've taken a star off because the customer service is HORRIBLE. Mine was broken from day one due to a known defect (the battery is buzzing and not charging when connecting to the dock). I spent FIVE days and FIVE CALLS on the phone with customer support and it got me NOWHERE. First they said they'd give me a next day shipping label which sounded reasonable. That never came. After more and more calls getting nowhere they then wanted me to ship it ground and CHARGE MY CREDIT CARD AGAIN FOR ANOTHER ROBOT??? Again, I still don't know if I would ever get a shipping label. Truly frustrating.
