Electrolux Pronto 2-in-1 Stick Vac - EL1000A Review

Electrolux Pronto 2-in-1 Stick Vac - EL1000A
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this relatively pricey combo vacuum with the hopes of replacing two other devices: our cordless Dustbuster and corded Hoover Stick Broom. Unfortunately the Electrolux usually sits in it charger unused as it just doesn't perform well.
PROS: looks great, lightweight, very maneuverable around and under furniture, charging base has handy light that doubles as nightlight
CONS: very weak suction, clogs easily, design flaws for removable handheld, tends to scatter dirt instead of collecting it
We have 100% hardwood floors and tile/linoleum throughout the house, and our hope was to find a cordless upright that we could use for quick jobs of sucking up pet hair and dirt around entryway doors, etc. At first glance the Electrolux seemed the perfect fit: it was cordless but could be used on floors without having to bend over, and for tight spot jobs the removable handheld unit would negate the need for our Dustbuster. Unfortuntely it just doesn't perform well at all. Even for light hair and dirt jobs the upright clogs far too easily. There is a piece of flexible tubing leading from the bottom of the vacuum to the handheld unit (the handheld snaps into place near the base and actually does the suction), and the angle of this narrow, flexible tubing is about 90 degrees and the smallest leaf or twig causes a clog. If the tubing is completely clear the suction is decent enough for very lightweight sweeping, but even at that point the spinning brush in the base of the upright unit tends to throw small debris aside before the suction can pull it up into the bag (for example, I've tried using it to clean up light amounts of stray litter debris around the cat box but it tends to just throw the litter around the floor instead of sucking it up). I find that compared to the Hoover I have to go over the same floor area with several more sweeps to and fro to get all of the hair and dirt.
Other annoyances include the inability to empty the dirt collector without removing the handheld from the upright. Also the handheld power button will not stay in an On position without holding it tightly with a finger or thumb (when using as an upright the power will stay on by itself). The mouth opening of the handheld is also much smaller than your typical Dustbuster and even for small jobs takes several more sweeps back and forth to collect the same amount of dirt of just a few sweeps with a Dustbuster.
So overall I find myself using our two older vacuums and even going to the added trouble of putting an extension cord on the Hoover to do general house vaccuming instead of even bothering to pull the Electrolux out of its stand. Even though it's cordless it just seems to take longer and more effort to get the same amount of work done. It's basically not much more than an expensive nightlight for our laundry room. I really wish I had the good experience with it I seem to see other Amazon users reporting, but alas I cannot honestly say I feel this device delivers anywhere near what it promises.

Dirt Devil M083414 Extreme Power Cordless Stick Vacuum Cleaner Review

Dirt Devil M083414 Extreme Power Cordless Stick Vacuum Cleaner
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Having just put tile throughout the house, and living with 3 dogs and 2 cats, I hated hauling out the heavy vacuum and plugging it in. And then unplugging and plugging again and again all the while dragging it around the house.. This little wonder does the whole house, is light and does the job. The only complaint I could possibly have is that the dirt cup is quite small and has to be emptied frequently. This, of course, would vary depending on how much animal hair accumulates on ones floor.

I would heartily reccommend this device because of it's ease of use, lack of weight and powerful suction.
I love it and could sell them door to door they are so great.

SC3683A Commercial Canister Vacuum Cleaner Review

SC3683A Commercial Canister Vacuum Cleaner
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This vacuum was one of the first purchases we made when we started our janitorial company three years ago. It has been money well spent! I only gave it 4 stars because there are 2 things that I would have changed on the design and they are really more annoyances than defects. The first one is I would add an automatic winding reel for the cord. It's a real pain to have to wind it up after each use to transport. The other thing I'd change is on the floor tool. We use it a lot on bare floors. Another model we have has 2 small wheels on the bottom of the floor tool that helps it ride more smoothly on the surface.
For a small vacuum it has a lot of suction and the telescoping wand is a great idea! Just push or pull on the handle while holding the locking mechanism and voila!
Changing the bags and filter is a snap! The vacuum only weighs 10 lbs. so it's easy to carry and has a handy shoulder strap. It could be a little quieter but it's not any worse than the vacuum I use in my home.
I recommend the commercial (red) version over the residential (yellow). For $40 more you get a larger motor and better hose and tools. The residential model seems to heat up a lot more than the commercial model probably due to the smaller motor. But you pay for that in weight, 10 lbs versus 8 lbs. The residential model's hose is a joke! It is so lightweight that it bends and crimps all the time. Also the residential model does not come with a shoulder strap.
We've used this vacuum on every job from residential cleaning to commercial cleaning to construction clean-up. It has never failed to deliver! I recommend it!

Dirt Devil Accucharge 15.6 Volt Cordless Bagless Stick Vac with ENERGY STAR Battery Charger, BD20035RED Review

Dirt Devil Accucharge 15.6 Volt Cordless Bagless Stick Vac with ENERGY STAR Battery Charger, BD20035RED
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this Dec '09 after about two weeks of research on lightweight vacs. I needed one that could handle: LOTS of dog hair (retriever/spitz mix!), four kids, the usual kitchen crumbs, area rugs, hardwood floors, tile and very low nap carpeting (whew!). We also have a woodstove and frequently have small leaves and wood debris from the logs being brought in the house. In the past, I have tried Bissel Turbo Sweep (kept breaking) and the Shark (new version with one side brush; battery died after one year and brush roll got so full of hair that it was a pain to try to keep it clean). Tired of batteries dying or the vac dying!
A big problem with cordless vacs is that the battery will inevitably die out on you within a year because of "overcharging" it. I really liked that this vac has a "smart charger" that only charges the vac what it needs and then reduces the charge to a trickle so that the battery does not get overcharged. The charger base is about the size of a dustpan and holds the vac in place well, so you'll need a place on the floor that you can park it. Handle does fold down if that makes a difference in your storage options.
First, the "cons": plastic body feels a little flimsy; it is awkward (but doable) on steps; whole body of vac swivels and not just the nozzle when you pivot it and takes a little getting used to; handle is NOT ergonomic and vac starts to feel hand "heavy" after a while (I can still use the vac with just my forefinger wrapped around the end of the handle and that helps). Also, if you are vacuuming a very dirty rug, the dirt cup will fill quickly and will lose suction.
Now the "pros": this vac REALLY picks stuff up! I am AMAZED at the amount of dog hair, crumbs, etc this thing will pull in! (Good-bye, doggie tumbleweeds!) Great for kitchen; scatter rugs get clean without being sucked up into the vac; great on tile, hardwood and low nap carpets. I also like the brushroll on/off feature so I can go from hardwood to carpet easily. Gets the edges clean too. The head of the vac is smaller than I thought, so if you can't get the edges clean going alongside it, I can get it clean coming straight at the edge. Now things like dog food and air soft pellets (two boys) will rattle around if you vac them up, so I usually end up emptying the dirt cup if that happens. Noise is moderate; it is, after all, a vacuum. Noise increases a bit if dirt cup gets full. Fully charged initially in under six hours, and again, place it back in its charger base and it will charge only what it needs (charging light goes out when vac is fully charged again). Have not used it enough to wear out the battery charge as I try to keep it's continual use under 10 minutes. It has a two year warranty on it, which I think is above average. After I vac my den carpet, and after about every other use on regular floors, I use my big vac to really clean the filter and filter screen as that is a key to getting good suction with these type of vacs. This thing picks up so much dog hair and dirt that I usally have to empty the dirt cup out at least once when I use it on my den rug, but not having to lug my 21- pound sears vac around is worth it. If the dirt cup was larger, it would be near perfect! I currently use Swiffer sweeper pole for my hardwoods and it looks like this vac will pay for itself within six months of not having to buy those refills all the time! So, I guess the only thing left to find out now is how long this will last!
PS: The dirt cup release button looks like you depress it downward, but actually you have to press upwards on it or you might break it! Also, on deeply patterned area rugs, it does not do a good job; but again for scatter rugs and everything else I mentioned, it does. Hope this helps!

Cordless convenience with an Energy Star rating! The AccuCharge system charges twice as fast so you can be ready for any quick pick up with 15.6 volts of cordless cleaning power. Move easily from carpet to hard floors with an on/off brushroll switch at your fingertips. When the unit is charging, the AccuCharge circuitry constantly monitors the battery. Once the battery is charged, power is reduced to a trickle to maintain the battery without drawing extra power. This remarkable system reduces energy consumption by 70% and extends the life of the battery.

Traditional Ni-Cad Battery Charging Systems When traditional Ni-Cad battery systems are kept plugged into the wall, energy (or current) is constantly being pumped into the unit. Even after the battery is fully charged, it still continues to supply it energy. This sends heat to the batteries and "cooks" them, damaging the battery cells. This damage to the batteries gradually decreases run time and also wastes energy.
AccuCharge™ Technology The AccuCharge system constantly monitors the unit's batteries and charging status. This "smart charger" recognizes when the unit is fully charged and then reduces power to the unit to a trickle charge for maintenance. This prevents power and heat from constantly being pumped into the batteries and "cooking" them. AccuCharge also uses an efficient switch mode charging adaptor, which combined with AccuCharge circuitry utilizes less energy. In a recent study, the use of Dirt Devil's acclaimed AccuCharge technology showed to maintain charge more than twice as long as regular batter charging technology. Since the AccuCharge Stick Vac can easily be set on its dock for charging, there is no need to worry about loose batteries or needing spares. ENERGY STAR certified AccuCharge technology will reduce electricity usage to only a trickle once your battery is fully charged. You can store your stick vac on the charger without having to worry about wasting energy, space, or money.

Hoover LINX Cordless Stick Vacuum Review

Hoover LINX Cordless Stick Vacuum
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Hoover LiNX Cordless Stick Vac (Model BH50010) List $179.99 (3/17/09)
Pros:
Cleans well - on/off brushroll for bare floors or area rugs/carpeting, excellent on pet hair
Control on handle - easy to use
Charge indicator accurate & useful
Dust cup very easy to empty & clean (including baffle tube when necessary)
Filter easy to clean
Stands up to store
Cons:
Awkward on stairs - no stair-handle, must support from below. I'm getting used to this, and it's easier if I use my stronger hand for the machine and weaker hand for the handle.
THE BOTTOM LINE:
Hoover Platinum CSV is absolutely shines in two areas: ease of use (switching from brushroll on to brushroll off, going between surface heights & types), and cleaning ability, especially the tricky maneuver of getting pet hair off area rugs.
WORD TO THE WISE:
I got this information from Hoover after my battery failed: don't store the battery in the charger. (I stored it in the charger and only took it out of the charger when I used it.) There is nothing in the instructions about this, but storing it in the charger can cause it to fail. It's OK to leave it several hours or overnight, but then take it out of the charger and put it in the vacuum. The battery will continue to hold the full charge no matter how long it is stored in the vacuum. (Thanks to the 2 year warranty on the battery, they are sending me a new one at no charge.)
Read on if you are interested in more detailed comments:
Price:
I am sure that with time the price will come down or discounts will be available from the $179 list. I know that the Hoover Platinum Lightweight Bagged Upright (another model in this line) which originally listed for $399 is readily available online for $300 now. (Nov 12, 2009 edit: Price has finally dropped into the $150 range!)
Battery Life:
The battery life is quite good, and I like the "fade-free" aspect of the product - it works at full power for the whole time. It does a much better job so much quicker than my old vac and I am more than satisfied, since I can get everything I want done in a single charge.
Bagless feature:
I think I finally understand why bagless vacuums are so popular, even though they are more work: there is something so satisfying about SEEING how much dirt and pet hair you have removed from your flooring. But however satisfying it is to see what you have removed, it creates an extra step that you need to perform nearly every time you use a bagless vac - ANY bagless vac - if you want it to maintain its cleaning power. With my previous stick vac, the dust cup emptied fine, but I had to pull the dust off the filter with my fingers to ready it for the next use, and occasionally use another vacuum to clean the filter because it was not washable. The Hoover Platinum CSV, however, is exceptionally easy to empty and clean. The dust cup empties from the bottom, the baffle tube is easy to remove from the dust cup assembly if necessary (which it will be, if you have multiple long-haired daughters), and the filter can be bushed off with a dry toothbrush and washed when necessary. Long hair does tend to wind around the baffle tube (part of the bagless system). Fortunately, that is easy to remove when emptying the dust cup.
Carpet Cleaning:
I have used (and liked, and still believe it is a good stick vac, although with limitations) the Eureka The Boss Lite Cordless (96 b)Eureka 96 B Quick Up Upright Cordless Stick Vacuum cordless (rated 4 ½ stars on Amazon) for years on my hardwood floors and area rugs for quick cleanups, so I have a basis for comparison.
My old Boss Lite was great on bare floors, but only better-than-nothing on rugs. (I used to kneel down and wipe the surface with a well-wrung out sponge to get the hair off my area rugs because the brush-roll on the Eureka just wasn't up to it.) By comparison, the Hoover Platinum Cordless Stick Vac is amazingly good at getting surface pet hair, dirt, and sock lint off rugs. It won't deep clean, but it will help to make the carpet surface LOOK clean, which is all I want for a quick clean up.
Ease of use:
Easily goes from one surface to another seamlessly, except for certain very lightweight mats. Rubber backed bathmats and doormats require me to lift the vacuum up off the bare floor and onto the rug, but it does a good job on those at cleaning them rather than sucking them up. It cannot be used on the very lightest towel-weight throw rugs with no backing, even without the brushroll - it sucks them up. With ordinary area rugs, however, the Hoover Platinum CSV goes up and over the edge with amazing ease.
Edge cleaning:
This vacuum has excellent edge cleaning. I don't ever have to stoop down to get that random bit of whatever from near the baseboard. This is a MAJOR plus when compared to my old stick vac.
Clearance:
The Hoover Platinum CSV will go under about the first 9 inches of furniture with only about 2 ½ inches of clearance,- you can't go further than that, because the bagless dust cup gets in the way. But if you have more clearance - about 8 inches (what my kitchen chairs have under the crossbars between the legs)- then you can get completely under.
Was there anything I liked BETTER about the my old stick vac?
Yes, I liked the way it hung on the wall to charge. The Hoover has a charging base which charges the battery, and the vac, while it stands on its own (a plus), does require floor space.

Equipped with Hoover's patented WindTunnel technology, this cordless and bagless stick vacuum cleaner uses the power of rotating brushes and three suction tunnels to lift and trap dirt. The unit's motorized power brush picks up even deep-down dirt in the thickest plush carpeting, while the one-touch switch on the handle turns off the brushroll, making it easy to transition from carpets to hard-floor surfaces. Move effortlessly throughout the house thanks to the cleaner's cordless design--no more having to stop to re-plug the power cord when moving from room to room. The machine runs on an interchangeable 18-volt Lithium Ion battery, which ensures maximum "fade-free" power right up until the battery is completely drained. Its battery-fuel gauge clearly indicates the amount of battery life remaining, and the included Energy Star battery charger quickly and efficiently powers it back up to a full charge. Other details include an 11-inch-wide nozzle with a wide-mouth opening, automatic height adjustment, edge cleaning bristles for closer access along baseboards and corners, soft non-marring rear wheels, and a low-profile base and reclining handle for access under furniture, as well as a comfort-grip handle and the ability to stand upright on its own without needing to lean against a wall for convenience and storage. Lightweight at just over 7-1/4 pounds, this cordless stick vac measures approximately 11 by 8 by 42 inches and carries a six-year limited warranty on the vacuum and a two-year limited warranty on the battery and charger. To maximize the life of your battery, do not store it on your charger unless the charging unit is unplugged.
The Hoover Platinum SeriesThe Hoover Platinum Series allows you to step up to a new level up luxury while you clean. The entire collection features a sleek and contemporary design scheme, as well as cutting edge cleaning technology. The LINX stick vac combines two modern conveniences—a bagless design means there is no need to continually buy replacements, and the cordless feature means you can travel from room to room with no worries about cord length or outlets. The Lithium Ion battery included allows you to monitor your charge while constantly delivering full power with "fade-free" technology. The included battery charger features a blue LED indicator strip so you can monitor the charging process, which is usually fully complete in less than four hours.

Hoover F7425-900 SteamVac Dual V with SpinScrub Hand Tool Review

Hoover F7425-900 SteamVac Dual V with SpinScrub Hand Tool
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I live in a 1000sqft apt with my esposa & 2 pugs
If you don't know, pugs shed every day of their lives!
I've had one for about 3 weeks now and here are my impressions
Super easy to put together, all you need is a screwdriver for 2 screws
It's also a breeze to use and it did a great job on my carpets (don't forget to vacuum first though)
Better than the rug dr I'd rent (those things are filthy!)
So for 2 bedrooms, living, dining, and sofa it took about 2 gallons which means that I had to empty the dirty water twice and refill the clean water twice
I also used about 32oz of soap which is about [$$] if you buy the name brand
Cleaning is also easy, just poor the dirty water in the toilet and rinse it out with water and boom you are set
Like other people have said there is no pour spout so be careful when pouring out the dirty water (you don't want to make a mess)
There are a couple other things to clean up, like the front part that sucks up all the water from the carpet, and some other fitters and the scrub brushes and that whole area
I usually wait till the next day when the unit is dry and just wipe the bottom down and pick of any bunches of lint or dog hair, and clean the front nozzle only when necessary
Some word about the attachments
First the accessory tray on the back is a bit cumbersome, bulky, doesn't hold the hose very well, and I've found gets in the way of storing the power cord
So, I didn't attach mine and just have it hanging on a coat hanger in the closet
Secondly, the way the hoses attaches to the front of the unit for the sucking and the other to the side for the soap is also not so great
It's not like my vacuum cleaner where there is a tight fit
For the sucking hose you kind of put it in the whole and turn it, but there's nothing to stop it from turning it the other way :(
For the soap hose you just push it in, it doesn't seem very secure because it can easily be pulled out
That being said I had not experienced problems with either falling out though
Next the spin scrub hand tool, it sucks!
I tried to use it for some corners and my sofa and it did not do a good job
I think it's because the spinning brushes powered by the air flow and not a separate motor like the main unit
Don't use it at all, but that's just me
The other stair/upholstery tool is much better
I was able to give my sofa cushions a good clearing
Lastly be careful when done with the attachments because the hose will have some left over dirty water and soap (this is probably the messiest part of the whole thing)
Sorry I don't use the bare floor attachment to comment
Overall, I love this thing to clean my carpets and the sofa
Cleaning is easy, remember it is NOT nonexistent, you DO have things to clean

Electrolux EL1014A ErgoRapido Bagless Cordless Handheld/Stick Vacuum Cleaner Review

Electrolux EL1014A ErgoRapido Bagless Cordless Handheld/Stick Vacuum Cleaner
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This cordless stick vac is lightweight, compact, and has an appealing design and color! It has a convenient base station, and has a built-in hand vac. The filter is easy to clean and has not only an easy to empty canister, but also a "twang" feature that helps you rid the filter of dust without soiling your hands. Awesome! The stick vacuum cleans my 850 square foot condo (all hardwoods) in a single charge, with charge to spare for using the hand vac on upholstery. (I haven't had to use it on carpet or in larger settings, so can't speak about it's performance there). It's compact, perfect for apartment-dwellers or for use in designated smaller areas of a larger home like kitchen, foyer, pet areas, etc. And frankly, I think it's adorable and LOVE the orange color - - very cheery when you're doing mundane work like vacuuming :)
People should have reasonable expectations of what a stick vac can do. A stick vac will never have the suction and power of a regular-sized vacuum, and you shouldn't expect it to! I keep a neat home, and vacuum once a week with my "regular" vacuum, a powerful, full-sized bagless upright with HEPA filtration that works great, but is kind of cumbersome and heavy to use everyday.
I use the ErgoRapido just for daily use in between "real" vacuumings, to keep my place neat and tidy everyday, free of cat hair/litter, crumbs in the kitchen, dirt tracked in the foyer from shoes, etc. - - and it works AWESOME for this purpose. I wouldn't expect it to do the job of a corded, full-size vacuum - - but it's awesome for everyday use to clean up little messes and dusty areas here and there.
I've owned other stick vacs in the past, and been disappointed with their performance (Dirt Devil "Vac-n-Mop" = TERRIBLE!). But this product so far is much better! I'd definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a maneuverable, easy-to-use and sleek vacuum for light-duty work or cleaning in between "regular" vacuuming.

Hoover Flair Bagless Upright Stick Vacuum with Power Nozzle, S2220 Review

Hoover Flair Bagless Upright Stick Vacuum with Power Nozzle, S2220
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a fantastic little vac. It isn't as loud as my last stick vac and it doesn't scratch my wood floors. The first day I bought it I really put it through the paces. I was impressed with how well it cleans floors, carpets and rugs with fringe. I love the fact that you can turn off the roller to do the fringed rugs and floors. It picked up popcorn and screws easily. Sand and gravel from the kids shoes, no problem. After a rain, the floor got a little muddy from all the kids going in and out so I just turned on the brush and VOILA, the dried mud went right up.
It really does stand on it's own, even on a soft cushy carpet.
The only changes left to make is to lengthen the cord a bit and put a small pull-out nozzle high up on the side so I can use it for practically everything, such as dusting windowsills. I won't let my wish list ruin the review though. 5 stars for the best little vac I've had yet.
